Music

Music at Furzeham Primary and Nursery school

  • The teaching of music at Furzeham is facilitated through the creative curriculum and extra-curricular activities including school clubs and peripatetic teaching. We have an annual ks2 performance in the summer term where the whole school is involved in carrying out a variety of performance skills.
  • Whole school listening to music, in many forms, increases understanding of musical composers and develops appreciation of different forms of Music developing creativity and imagination.
  • Instrument teaching is encouraged through the teaching of woodwind, piano and drumming.
  • Community singing is actively participated in and collaboration with schools in the bay to perform.
  • Orchestral and groups visit the school to provide stimulus and imagination for musical enjoyment.

Torbay Festival of Performing Arts

Each year the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay hosts a Festival of Performing Arts where Primary and Secondary schools can come and perform to showcase their talents in the performing arts. Last year Furzeham Dance club performed to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off” and sang Gary Barlow’s “Let me go”. It was a really enjoyable experience to participate in such an event, to perform on stage to the public and other locals schools. The festival takes place each year in March and Furzeham Primary School are excited to be attending! Details will be provided as and when they are available.
