Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance Lead - Mrs Cunnew

Attendance Data Analyst - Mrs O'Flaherty

We place great importance on attendance and punctuality. Children who are not in school cannot learn, and children who are late miss important introductions to lessons. Families have an important role to play in ensuring that their children attend well and are on time each day. Both attendance and punctuality at primary school tend to set the pattern for later years, so we ask all parents to co-operate in making sure that children attend regularly and on time. School sessions and times (Gates are open from 8.40 am).

Please advise the school first thing every morning when your child is absent.  A message can be left on the answerphone (01803 853347) or you can email office@furzehamprimary.org.uk

Requests for Term time absence

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 previously allowed head teachers to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in “special circumstances” for up to ten school days per year. Please note that from 1st September 2013 amendments to the 2006 regulations have come into force.

The amendments make clear that head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

This means that unless there are exceptional circumstances the absence request cannot be authorised. Therefore, any Parent/Carer who does take their child out of school without authorisation could be subject to a £60 penalty notice per child, per parent from the Local Authority.

These are National directives that we must follow and we ask for your full co-operation.

Absences from school will not be authorised for:
